Raised mostly in the Pacific Northwest and having been fortunate enough to have lived many years in Southern Africa and the Bahamas, all the while traveling extensively around the world; Diana now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona where she is pursuing her dream to sculpt and has lived off and on for nearly half her life.Although Diana Fierin began sculpting in 1991, due to health and family tragedy she was unable to truly sculpt professionally until 2004. From that time until the beginning of 2008 she has done strictly commission work, both in the U.S. and overseas. Her most important piece of work to date is a sculpture that was commissioned and donated July 8th, 2005, to the National Museum of the Bahamas in Nassau. It was a slightly larger than life bust of the first inhabitants of the Bahamas, the Lucayan Indian. ("Lucayan - circa ‘1492’"). (You can view it on her web site. An edition is being released of this piece.)In January of 2008 she decided to take the time to create a body of work of her own, sculptures which would allow her to show her individual creativity and ability. She truly needed to get it out of her head, through her fingers and into the beautiful works of art that all could enjoy. Her work is, as her life, very eclectic. Her style is figurative realism. Although she has done commissions and many one of a kind terracotta pieces in the past, she is at present, producing only bronzes. She has done mainly portraiture, but has also done many figures as well and has recently, very successfully, started to sculpt the animals she owned while living in Africa, spent some of her life around or just plain, dearly loves. She invites you to join her in a journey that will hopefully, inspire a variety of many feelings, while you view and experience her works of life.
Art Education
When Diana returned from Africa to reside once again in the U.S., she wanted to do something more then to work in the businesses her late husband and she had created. She needed more individual fulfillment out of life. She had always been artistic and creative. At the age of 37, she saw a sculpture and thought, simply, "I bet I could do that!" She took a quick weekly course at one of the local art centers and has been hooked ever since.Since then she has studied under many famous Artists at various Art Centers and Schools, such as the Scottsdale Artist’s School, in Scottsdale, Arizona and individual classes with acclaimed artists in the U.S. and in Italy. At the Scottsdale Artist School she has studied extensively under Eugene Daub, Bruno and Paul Lucchesi and Lincoln Fox. She has also studied under other renown artists such as John Coleman, Floyd Tennison DeWitt, Sandy Scott, Richard Loffler, Tuck Langland, Rosalind Cook, Jo Saylors, Henry Stinson, Jerry Cox, Peter Rubino and Robert Lemler. As well as taken three courses in mold making and courses in anatomy taught by the famous sculptor Dr. Wilfred Stedman . She has also studied bronze casting at S.C.C., in Scottsdale Arizona.
Her Creations
"My work is most recognized by the life I put into the faces of my pieces and the expressions of emotion in their eyes. I bring them to life for the viewer. Something alive you feel you need to reach out and touch. Recently I have made my pieces with the ability to be joined with another in the future or be displayed as a set or separately. I would like this to become another of my trademarks in the future.""Peoples of varied cultures and races are prominent subjects of my bronze sculptures. My subject matter is very eclectic. Although I tend to sway toward African pieces as I lived almost nine years there. As well, there is the Southwestern influence, having lived half my life around it. I recently have developed a desire to create my favorite thing in life, animals and wildlife. Unfortunately, my hands cannot keep up with the constant creative ideas flowing through my mind. I would need five lifetimes to create them all. The varieties of these subjects constantly challenge me as an artist."
Her Work and Where You Will find It
In addition to private homes, her work has been placed in the National Museum in Nassau in the Bahamas, the Jackson Hole, Wyoming Hospital, and the headquarters of private and public businesses. At present, she is working on her body of work to be placed in galleries across the United States hopefully by later this year. She will be posting the locations of them to her web site as soon as they are positioned there. She is new and upcoming and invites you to come along and watch her rising star as she presents her work to the world. "In the mean time I thank you for taking the time to experience them with me on my web site." (Graciously created for me by my brother-in-law Daniel Kaynor)
