"Nocona" The Wanderer

18' H x 12”W x 11 “D, Edition of 25

NOCONA - "The Wanderer" was one of the last, fierce, young Comanche Chiefs never to surrender. Nocona was the father of Quanah Parker; famous for being the last free Comanche Chief and for what he did for his people. Quanah Parker’s mother, was Cynthia Ann Parker. She was captured by the Comanche at nine and raised as one of their own. It is said that after being captured back by the cavalry and returned to the whites as an adult and having a family of three children with Nocona, Cythia Ann, known as Naduah, died of a broken and lost heart. Not being able to find Naduah, Nocona CHOSE to die from an infection from battle, after killing his worst enemy.

There are no known photographs of Nocona, only photographs of Quanah Parker, with stories of the ways in which he had resembled his Father, as well as the legend of Nocona himself.

The creation of this bust was based on that information, in order to bring to mind a great leader, who, lost in time, deserves to be remembered.

“NOCONA “- (The Wanderer), edition number 1 of 25 was purchased by William and Joan Andrews, (author) and patrons of the arts and donated to the St. John's Medical Center in Jackson Hole Wyoming in 1996 where it is presently displayed.
